“Why I’m Running”
By Mark Leno, Assemblyman 13th District Apr 14, 2007
On March 2nd, at events in Marin and San Francisco, I announced my candidacy for State Senate in 2008. I am running to offer voters a change and give voters a choice. The issues confronting us today are huge, from climate change to health care for all. We need new ideas, new leadership, and new approaches.
BART Snubs Low-Income Fast Pass Users
By Fran Taylor, Member of Walk San Francisco Apr 14, 2007
The Mission bus takes almost an hour to travel downtown from Geneva, according to Muni’s schedule. BART from Balboa station to Embarcadero takes about 15 minutes. Why would anyone from the Excelsior choose to spend 45 extra minutes lurching on a bus instead zipping underground?
The City is a Sanctuary for Immigrants
By Tom Ammiano, D9 Supervisor Apr 14, 2007
I want to let my constituents know that there is an opening on the Immigrants Rights Commission and it is my desire to appoint someone from District 9. As everyone in the neighborhood is aware, ICE has begun to conduct raids in the Mission, terrorizing the population at large and violating this City’s long standing Sanctuary City Law. Nowhere more than in the Mission is the effect of the Federal government’s crusade against immigrants and their families felt so strongly, and nowhere else in the city does a community feel so besieged. I encourage all applicants interested in advocating for the human and civil rights of their community to apply, REGARDLESS OF YOUR IMMIGRATION STATUS.
