5K Fun Run/Walk for SAFEty
Sep 25, 2009
San Francisco SAFE is gearing up to host its first ever 5K Fun Run/Walk for SAFEty event designed to promote awareness of personal and family safety, while raising funds for all of its important community services. On Sunday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at Peacock Meadow in Golden Gate Park, communities from The City will come together for safety in an effort to make walking on the streets of neighborhoods a safe experience for the entire family.
Street crime affects not only the victims, but all those made fearful that they too may become targets. Organizers say it is very important to develop and publicize effective prevention strategies in order to avoid being targeted. They believe that through simple and practical crime prevention techniques everyone can be safe. In 2008 SAFE staff gave over 100 presentations on personal and pedestrian safety, observing and reporting suspicious and criminal activities and created at least 10 different neighborhood advisories in a variety of languages for the affected areas. SAFE combines a proactive approach with 33 years of experience in crime prevention.
“Thank you for helping our neighborhood come together. Not only have we gained the benefit of safety awareness and prevention but we have forged friendships among neighbors which we value and respect. Thank you for leading us to have a greater understanding of safety and the value of knowing our neighbors. Our meetings have been an inspiration!” said Rita, Block Leader from the Northern District.
All proceeds from the 5K Fun Run/Walk will go to SAFE (Safety Awareness for Everyone), a community-based non-profit organization, to support its mission – building safer, stronger communities through crime prevention education and public safety services.
