Robbery with Gun, Aggravated Assault
Elvita’s Jewelry Store, 2689 Mission
Nov. 23, 6:41 p.m. — Two men wearing ski masks ran into the small jewelry store. One robber pointed a handgun as the other suspect immediately jumped the display counter and started scooping up gold rings and hanging necklaces placing them into a white plastic bag.  “Don’t move,” the gunman ordered pointing the gun at the two women working behind the counter who were mother and daughter. “Or I’ll shoot you.” Fearing for the life of her daughter, the senior woman grabbed the suspect next to her who was holding the bag of stolen goods. The other suspect reached over and struck the woman over the head with the butt of the gun. The woman’s daughter grabbed a step ladder near-by and threw it at the gunman striking him in the legs. A third employee who was standing quietly behind another counter, screamed for her husband who was in back of the store. Alarmed by the sound of his wife’s voice, the woman’s husband hurriedly walked to the front of the store not knowing a robbery was in progress. As he approached, the gunman turned and pointed the weapon at him using both hands. ”Why you doing that?” the assailant asked.  The man quickly ducked behind a dividing wall and both suspects fled the store on foot running northbound on Mission Street with the plastic bag of stolen jewelry in hand. A near-by merchant saw the two suspects running, got into his SUV and gave chase, following them east on 23^rd and then south on Capp Street where he lost sight of them.  Police quickly responded to the scene and searched the area for the suspects, described as African American, 16 to 22 years old, both about 5’7, 140 lbs, wearing black baggy clothing, but could not find them. Officers confiscated several surveillance tapes of the suspects running from the scene from other stores in the area. The 64-year-old victim, who was badly injured during the robbery, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where she received several stables to close the wound on the back of her head and treatment for pulled ligaments in her fingers. Police are asking anyone with further information regarding this vicious crime to call SFPD’s robbery detail at (415) 553-1201.
 
Robbery w/Gun: 2800 blk of 23^rd
Nov. 25, 8:30 p.m. —  While standing next to his work truck, a man noticed two other men walk by him. The two men suddenly turned and ran back toward the man pushing him up against the side of his pick-up. One man was pointing a black semi-auto handgun. “Don’t move.” the gunman demanded. Fearing for his life, the victim complied as the other suspect riffled through his pockets taking out his wallet. “Sorry we have to do this, we have to feed our families,” the suspect told him. After they had taken the victim’s possessions, the suspects fled on foot northbound on Florida Street. Suspect number one is described as African American, 26-28 years old, 6’0, 180 lbs, wearing a brown jacket, one white glove on his left hand, tan boots and sported short dreads. The other suspect is also African American, 5’8, 180 lbs, wearing all dark clothing and tan boots.
 
Auto Theft, Theft from Person: 3600 blk of Market
Nov. 24, 5:14 p.m. — On the encouragement of his long time friend, a man rented a car with intentions of them taking a day trip together. Since his friend did not possess a driver’s license, the rental agreement was solely in his name. The man paid cash for the Enterprise Chevy and parked the Impala in front of his residence over night and invited his friend to stay over so they could get an early start. At about five in the morning, however, the man woke up and found his friend had left. Looking around his apartment, he also discovered missing were the keys to the rented car and seven hundred dollars from his dresser drawer. The man looked outside and saw the Impala was no longer parked in front of his house and called the police.
 
Grand Theft: Blackbird Bar, 2124 Market
Nov. 28, 11:30 p.m. — While sitting at a table, a man placed his bag containing his laptop next to his feet on the floor beside him. After about 45 minutes later, he looked down and saw the bag had been moved a couple of feet away. Alarmed, the man checked his bag and discovered the laptop inside was missing. The victim informed the bartender who told him he had seen a man bending over near his bag acting suspicious but had not seen him take the computer. The bartender described the suspect as African American, 30-40 years old, 5’5, 130 lbs, wearing a baggy suit, with a tan overcoat. The victim searched the area for the suspect, but could not find him.
 
Warrant Arrest, Possession of Burglary Tools: 300 blk of Sanchez
Nov. 28, 12:52 p.m. — Police responded to a call of people loitering on the grounds of an apartment complex. When officers arrived, they saw two men walking out of the courtyard. The officers stopped them and after running a computer query, discovered one of the men had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest out of Santa Cruz County. The other man was cleared of any wants and officers admonishing him for trespassing and let him go.  Officers took the other suspect into custody for the warrant and transported him to Mission Station for booking. At the station, they conducted a property inventory of the man’s backpack and discovered a flathead screwdriver, a wrench, a heavy duty magnet and valet keys for Ford, Chrysler, BMW and Lexus automobiles. Through their experience and training, the officers recognized these items as tools commonly used to break into vehicles. The suspect was booked for the warrant and possession of burglary tools.

 
Theft from Person: Chow Restaurant, 215 Church
Nov. 15, 1:30 p.m. — After finishing her lunch, a woman noticed her handbag sitting next to her on the floor was missing. The woman asked the waitress if she had seen anyone take her bag, but the waitress told her that she hadn’t. However, she did see out of the corner of her eye a woman pick something off the ground in that general area and walk out of the restaurant.  The victim called the police who searched the area for the suspect, described as African American, 35-45 years old, with red hair, untidy in appearance and wearing a pink sweater, but could not find her. Taken was a black handbag. Inside the handbag was a US passport, an iPhone and miscellaneous identification and credit cards.
 
Robbery with Force: Safeway, 2020 Market
Nov. 15, 12:59 p.m. — Two security officers for Safeway watched as a man took a single can of beer out of a cooler and stuffed it into his pocket. The thief proceeded to walk past several cash registers making no attempt to pay for the beer and walked out the store. The two guards stopped the man in the parking lot. “Stop, Safeway security, you need to go back inside.”  The guards told him. The suspect took the can of beer out of his pocket and handed it over. “There,” he said, “but I’m not going back inside the store.” The employees grabbed the man by the arms to lead him back inside, but the suspect swung his elbows violently in an attempt to break free and then kicked one of the guards in the leg and threw a punch at the other. The guards wrestled him to the ground and placed him in handcuffs. Police arrived and took custody of the suspect, 44, and transported him to Mission Station where he was booked for robbery. The security guards were not seriously injured.
 
Stolen Vehicle Arrest Made: Unit blk of Eureka
Dec. 13, 2:04 a.m. — While on routine patrol, an officer observed a vehicle with a headlight out. Upon running a computer query, the vehicle listed stolen. The officer affected a traffic stop and the lone driver of the vehicle, a woman, pulled over on Eureka Street, got out of the car yelling, “I’m lost.” The officer quickly took her into custody. “I bought this car for $400 several months ago from a friend in Oakland,” the woman explained. “I didn’t know it was stolen.” The officer placed the suspect in the back of his patrol car and searched the vehicle, finding several glass pipes and some suspected rock cocaine. The suspect, 57, was taken to Mission Station and booked for grand theft auto, narcotic violations and driving without a license.
 
Burglary, Hot Prowl: 500 blk of Guerrero
Dec. 13, 3 a.m. — While inside their apartment a husband and wife heard noises coming from their garage.  The couple walked through their house and garage, but did not see anything. About two hours later, they heard noise again and looked outside their window and observed a homeless man they knew as “Terry” standing in front of their garage. The husband went into the garage and found a red jacket and some cookies lying on the floor, looked out the garage door, but Terry was gone. The couple went back to bed and thought nothing more about it. Later that morning, when they woke up and went down to the garage, they discovered several items missing: five electric saws, a die grinder, two nail guns, a volt meter, several electrical hand tools, a bottle of tequila, a cat carrier and eight bars of soap. The couple called the police and filed a report. Officers called CSI to process the scene for evidence. “Terry” was listed as a suspect.
 
Burglary, Hot Prowl: 200 blk of Eagle
Dec. 13, 4 a.m. — A woman awoke to the sound of breaking glass. Because she lived on a busy street, she went back to sleep and did not call 911. When she awoke in the morning, she discovered four windows had been broken to her porch. However the suspect did not gain entry to the main part of the house. A screw driver and umbrella were discovered missing.
 
Burglary Arrest Made: Mereb Market, 696 Guerrero
Dec. 11, 4:10 am. — Police responded to a burglary alarm at a small liquor store on the corner of 19^th and Guerrero. Upon arrival, the officers observed a ventilation window on the side of the building that had been shattered, glass lay on the sidewalk underneath the window. Officers looked inside the shattered window with their flash lights and observed the cash register open and the coin divider lying on the floor next to the register. Officers set a perimeter around the building and waited for the owner to arrive. A short time later, the merchant arrived with keys to the front door. Officers entered the building and searched the premises finding a man crouched down behind a counter trying to hide from their view. At gun point, officers quickly took the suspect into custody. A search of the culprit’s pockets revealed several items belonging to the store, including cigarettes, Bic lighters and $300 in cash. The burglar, 52, was taken to Mission Station where he was booked for burglary, possession of stolen property and a warrant for a previous burglary charge for $50,000.
 
Grand Theft: 4000 blk of 18th
Dec. 5, 10:30 p.m. — A woman reported while at a house party, she left her purse downstairs. When she went to retrieve it, she discovered $900 missing from her wallet.  There are no known suspects.
 
Theft of Property: 4000 blk of 18th
Dec. 8, 12 noon — While in a flower shop on 18^th Street, a woman accidentally left her wallet sitting on the counter and walked out, leaving it behind. About four days later, she went back to the flower shop and reported the loss but the wallet had not been turned in. Inside the missing wallet were several pieces of the woman’s identification and credit cards.
 
Theft from Vehicle: 100 blk of Grandview
Dec. 10, 7 a.m. — A woman reported that her vehicle was broken into while parked in her private driveway over night. The unknown suspect gained entry into the Toyota Sienna by breaking the passenger side window. Taken was a GPS system and Apple iPod.
 
Attempted Burglary: 300 blk of Caselli
Dec. 13, 4:15 a.m. — While in his bedroom, a man heard the sound of breaking glass ran down stairs and saw the front bay window to his house shattered. The man looked outside but saw no one and didn’t hear the sound of a car driving away. The resident called 911 and officers responded and searched the area but could not find any one. It was determined the suspect did not enter the house because of the large shards of glass were still in the window frame.
 
Vandalism to Vehicle: 600 blk of Alvarado 

Dec. 5, 7 p.m. — A man called police to report he parked his Jeep Cherokee over night in front of his house. When he returned to his car in the morning he discovered someone had keyed the hood, tailgate, doors and fenders and had let out the air in the front and rear passenger side tires. The resident told responding officers this is the second time this has happened.
 
Vandalism to Vehicle: 17th and Sanchez
Dec. 7, 8:40 a.m. — A man parked his Audi A3 on a public street over night. When he returned in the morning, he discovered the driver’s window shattered and the vehicle had been rummaged through. The glove box had also been pried open with a screw driver which was found lying on the passenger seat.  Nothing was taken.
