Death At Bernal Shell Station
Mauricio Vela, Bernal Heights Residents, Apr 12, 2006
A senseless and tragic death took place on Thursday, March 30 at the Shell gas station located at Randall and Mission St. An altercation between Andrew Kelly and an assailant ended in the premature death of another young person in our community. Mr. Kelly was run over by the other man's vehicle and the car was found on the Richland Avenue Bridge later that evening. The assailant was in custody as of Thursday evening. Mr. Kelly had attended the wake of Rolando Valladares, 21, who was gunned down on Saturday, March 25 at Capp and 25th streets. The SFPD's Gang Task Force and Homicide units are now investigating the case. The case is being handled as an assault with a deadly weapon resulting in a homicide. Hopefully, the police and community violence prevention workers can intervene to stop this senseless series of killings. With the local city surplus, our elected officials need to provide the resources to prevent disputes from getting to this level of violence. |
