A Personal Challenge
By Mark Leno, Assemblyman, 13th District, Jul 16, 2007
Hunger is the most extreme form of poverty. The hopelessness it brings is truly unimaginable. And yet, for 26 million Americans, and nearly 2 million Californians, the unimaginable would come crashing down on them were it not for our federal food stamp program.
Reducing our Exposure to Toxic Chemicals
By Mark Leno, Assemblyman, District 13, Jun 11, 2007
Greetings Neighbors! Over the last 50 years, chemicals have come to play a role in all aspects of our lives. They make our clothes brighter, keep insects out of our fruits and vegetables and protect us from fires. But they come at a cost. Many of us assume that the chemicals in the products sold to us have gone through testing to ensure their safety. In fact, only a small number of the 80,000 chemicals registered with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have been tested for harmful effects. Each of us have some degree of chemical contamination in our bodies, and scientists are only now learning how they can have a profound affect on our health and the Earth.
“Why I’m Running”
By Mark Leno, Assemblyman 13th District, Apr 14, 2007
On March 2nd, at events in Marin and San Francisco, I announced my candidacy for State Senate in 2008. I am running to offer voters a change and give voters a choice. The issues confronting us today are huge, from climate change to health care for all. We need new ideas, new leadership, and new approaches.

Here in San Francisco, we know all too well the full impact of this pandemic on our community and our psyche, and that oftentimes the fight against HIV/AIDS is slow and frustrating.
Fantastic News From Sacramento
Nov 08, 2006
Greetings Neighbors! We have exciting news from Sacramento to share with you this month. Upon the adjournment of session, 21 bills I had authored were on the Governor's Desk for his signature. Of these, a whopping 15 were signed. This very successful legislative year included bills to bring healthy foods to low-income neighborhoods, offer much needed financial assistance to foster youth, encourage the generation of solar power in San Francisco, protect LGBT elders, and provide $1.3 million to the Trauma Recovery Center at San Francisco General Hospital, among others. Here are just a few highlights I would like to share with you.
